February is one of our favorite months because it highlights love, romance and beautiful gifts - something we focus on all year! To spread love you must live it and that means making your home a soothing, inviting and comforting place. Here are some of our favorite home accents that make us feel warm & fuzzy! 1. Fresh flowers and plants. Fresh flowers in the home bring energy, color and vibrance to your space. Green plants actually can increase oxygen levels and purify the air. Plants also release moisture vapor, which increases the humidity in the air around them, helping decrease dry skin & throats. 2. Surround yourself with art. Home is where the art is! You don't have to spend a lot of money on art, just pick pieces that are important to you. What's the piece you see when you walk in the front door? Does it make you feel welcomed, relaxed and comfortable? Choose artisan pieces that you're connected to in some way. Collecting art pieces from your travels will always remind you of these journeys that you loved. 3. Add color. We all have a color that makes us feel good. Each color brings a different energy to a space. Yellows usually add radiance, greens spur growth and flexibility, reds welcome prosperity, and oranges bring warmth and cheer. There are so many meanings to color but start with your own favorite colors. 4. Add soft materials. We love the modern world and it's hard edges but don't be afraid to add blankets, soft pillows or a plush throw rug. Touching soft objects increases our sense of comfort and security - studies show ;-) 5. Light candles. Candles are romantic, add ambient light and are just plain sexy. Light scented candles in the bathrooms, bedrooms and in living spaces where food is not being served. Use unscented candles in your dining areas. 6. Use mirrors. Decorators use mirrors to magnify natural light and add room to a space. If you have flowers or a plant in front of a mirror that image is enhanced. Put a favorite vase or bowl in front of a mirror to enhance so you see even more of something you love! 7. Get creative. Make things yourself. It can be a serious or fun hobby. Pottery, watercolors, amateur photography. Surrounding yourself with things you made elicits pride and self-love. Find your inner artist! Enjoy this month of love! Here are some of our favorite things to bring it year round in small ways to our home:
Hearts dishes or vases Tealights - lots of them! Mini vase - small enough for just a couple blooms Here's hoping you're having a very good start to the New Year and you haven't been too hard on yourself with those resolutions. Often we push ourselves to do things we may not like (because we know it's good for us) or deprive ourselves of favorites things (because we know it's good for us!). Isn't it exhausting? And it sure makes it tough for January to win anyone's favorite month award! Because we have a passion for designing beautiful pieces for the home, it's easy for us to shift the focus towards what we call more "pleasant" self-improvement, Let's make a resolution to create better daily rituals and appreciate simple moments so that we may "Live Beautifully" more often. Here are resolutions we like for 2018: 1. More fresh flowers in our home and office. They look good, they smell good, and it's a bright spot on these dreary winter days. 2. Use your fabulous dishes for even the simplest gatherings. There is no time like today to break out that beautiful platter to serve up casual food for an informal gathering. It makes everything taste better. 3. Give thoughtful gifts to your favorite hosts. Entertaining's hard work and if you have that certain friend that always goes all-out for their guests, show them they're appreciated with a small token for their home. 4. Set the table. We mean, really set the table. Nothing says you care like a beautifully curated table. It sets the tone for a wonderful gathering since you've already claimed it special, and the conversation will follow... 5. Celebrate more often. The weekend, the beach, your sports team win—find your reason. And celebrate. How about you? Tell us in the comments how you plan to be kinder to yourself and Live Beautifully in 2018! Our home and gift shopping options are endless, whether we want to run out and visit our local stores, or jump online and order something to end up on our doorstep. So many choices, so fast and right at our fingertips. Increasingly, and through the accessibility of e-commerce and reach to artists worldwide, consumers are searching out custom, bespoke products where they can put a face on the maker, and hear a story of the art in their hands. The Childs Studio has been hand-gilding custom orders for over 25 years and we know why our customers keep coming back:
People Connect To People
More than ever, people like to know that the products they buy are made by a real person who is crafting the piece with care. Factory lineups and machine-produced goods somehow remove the personal connection they want to feel when purchasing a special gift or keepsake for their home. The Desire To Be Different We all crave to be creative taste makers, carving our own personality imprint. Whether it's clothes, experiences or our home, we tell our stories proudly outlining our handpicked curated style. Small batch artisan goods showcase this individuality. The Thoughtfulness Behind a Gift We've all walked through stores in frustration when trying to find that perfect gift for a milestone birthday or wedding. Hand-designed and artist gifts just seem more special because they say you took the time to search out the unique. If you are also sharing a personal favorite artist of your own, this makes the handmade gift especially thoughtful by creating that future connection on your shared collecting. Supporting Small Business Paying people directly for their meaningful work just feels good. You know they've worked hard to bring their vision to light, and it takes determination and commitment to keep it going. Small businesses and the artisans who run them keep our community, design, innovation - and so much more - interesting and creative! Thank you for supporting this wonderful handcrafted and handmade artisan movement! Like or share on the bottom of this page - also tell us in the comments about a favorite handcrafted gift you received!
Keeping it Artisan Real At The Tamara Childs Studio
We realize that after all of our own story-telling and materials, people still don't know that we are literally hand-designing EVERY piece. We don't have a team of production people in our studio. Tamara and Adam Childs (mother and son) ARE the design team and producers of every piece. Here's a peek into our day and the process for getting every custom order out!
Tamara paints the design on the vase.
Tamara gets the metal leaf ready to place on the vase.
Tamara applies the metal leaf to the vase.
Now the piece goes to Adam Childs for finishing!
Adam carefully brushes the excess metal leaf off to expose the design.
Once the custom metallic design has been finished by Adam, he coats it with a protective varnish. All of our products are hand washable!
Tamara's pieces are staged and ready to ship!
