Our Top Wedding Gifts

3/19/2018

Wedding Season is approaching and we are so busy at the studio hand-gilding beautiful pieces for our-brides-to-be. We're often asked "what are your top sellers?" for this important gift-giving occasion. We curated a guide which includes our most popular items for registries, bridal party favors and wedding gifts.

Registries

The Champagne Flute in Gold is hands-down our biggest seller. It's elegant, classic and gold is hotter than ever in styling.  Shown here on our 16" Zig Zag tray. Tamara hand-gilds every stem and we demonstrate the careful process below - hover over the photo to read each step.
First Tamara brushes on the adhesive for the metal leaf.
Tamara paints her signature on every glass.
The gold leaf sheets are placed on the adhesive.
Excess metal sheet is buffed away to reveal design.

Bridal Party Favors

These sweet mini vases are so popular for both party and bridal shower favors and come with their own gift bag (the vases can be filled with candy). Shown here in  patterns Wabi Sabi, Slash and Zig Zag, all in Gold.

Wedding Gifts

Some guests don't want to choose their gift from the wedding registry but  want to give something unique and special. The Glass Candlesticks are so popular because they are artful, elegant and fall right in that wedding gift price-point. Shown here in Wabi Sabi pattern in Gold.

Decorative Glass Bowls are another great wedding gift idea because they serve as a beautiful stand-alone home accent piece but can also be used in home entertaining - everything is hand washable! Shown here is our Bubble Glass Bowl in a Solid Starburst pattern/color and our Glass Pedestal Bowl in a Solid Sunset pattern/color.

Our third top-selling wedding gift is a Decorative Art Glass Vase, shown here in Roadz pattern in color Starburst.  There are so many sizes and design choices for this, leaning both classic and contemporary, depending on your couple's home style.

We hope this guide was helpful when selecting your custom-designed, hand-gilded Tamara Childs' piece.  Since every piece is designed to order, please allow plenty of time for our studio to create your special gift. Why We Love Handcrafted & Handmade Gifts

Our home and gift shopping options are endless, whether we want to run out and visit our local stores, or jump online and order something to end up on our doorstep. So many choices, so fast and right at our fingertips. Increasingly, and through the accessibility of e-commerce and reach to artists worldwide, consumers are searching out custom, bespoke products where they can put a face on the maker, and hear a story of the art in their hands. The Childs Studio has been hand-gilding custom  orders for over 25 years and we know why our customers keep coming back:
People Connect To People
More than ever, people like to know that the products they buy are made by a real person who is crafting the piece with care. Factory lineups and machine-produced goods somehow remove the personal connection they want to feel when purchasing a special gift or keepsake for their home.

The Desire To Be Different
We all crave to be creative taste makers, carving our own personality imprint. Whether it's clothes, experiences or our home, we tell our stories proudly outlining our handpicked curated style. Small batch artisan goods showcase this individuality.

The Thoughtfulness Behind a Gift
We've all walked through stores in frustration when trying to find that perfect gift for a milestone birthday or wedding. Hand-designed and artist gifts just seem more special because they say you took the time to search out the unique.  If you are also sharing a personal favorite artist of your own, this makes the handmade gift especially thoughtful by creating that future connection on your shared collecting.

Supporting Small Business
Paying people directly for their meaningful work just feels good.  You know they've worked hard to bring their vision to light, and it takes determination and commitment to keep it going.  Small businesses and the artisans who run them keep our community, design, innovation - and so much more - interesting and creative!

Thank you for supporting this wonderful handcrafted and handmade artisan movement!

Keeping it Artisan Real At The Tamara Childs Studio
We realize that after all of our own story-telling and materials,  people still don't know that we are literally hand-designing EVERY piece. We don't have a team of production people in our studio. Tamara and Adam Childs (mother and son) ARE the design team and producers of every piece.

Here's a peek into our day and the process for getting every custom order out!
Tamara paints the design on the vase.
Tamara gets the metal leaf ready to place on the vase.
Tamara applies the metal leaf to the vase.
Now the piece goes to Adam Childs for finishing!

Adam carefully brushes the excess metal leaf off to expose the design.

Once the custom metallic design has been finished by Adam, he coats it with a protective varnish. All of our products are hand washable!

Our Favorite Ways to Bring the Scents Inside

8/22/2017

Glass Vases & Flower Arranging
There's a reason why we make beautiful vases - we love flowers! They look good, they smell good and there is something about bringing nature inside that just feels good.  Our indoor spaces are both big and small and there's a floral statement that is just right for every corner of your home. We're here to share some of our favorites.

Small & Single

Some blooms are pretty enough on their own, and it just takes one - especially if you are filling a small space like a bathroom counter, or a guestroom night stand.  Fragrant blooms are perfect here because a single stem will infuse a subtle scent to keep spaces smelling fresh.

Our favorites include Tuberose, Roses, Lilacs and Jasmine.

Blooms & Greens

Sometimes it's as much about the blooms as the beautiful greens that make them pop. Think of it like accessories that make an outfit. This is also a great way to break up store-bought bouquets into 2 or 3 more vases for placement in other rooms. Greens can be purchased from the florist or can be taken right from your own yard!

Our favorites include Eucalyptus, Bells of Ireland, several kinds of fern, and grasses.

Tall & Dramatic

You want a statement piece - it's an occasion or event where guests are greeted with a dramatic floral wow!  This can be the centerpiece on a table, a pop in a hallway or a colorful welcome in an entryway. Think long stalks and colorful blooms mixed with greens.

Our favorites include Gladiolus, Snapdragons, Calla Lilies and Peonies.

Care & Cutting of Your Stems

  • Cutting. The best time to cut stems and branches is in the early morning or evening when the air is cool. Use sharp pruners.
  • Roses: Make cuts above a set of five leaves.
  • Shrubs: Cut flowers that grow in clusters, such as lilac and mock orange, before all buds have opened.
  • Caring. As you cut, plunge all branches or stems immediately in a bucket of lukewarm water. Before arranging woody ones (including flowering plum, lilac, and magnolia), remove the lower leaves, recut the stem ends at a slant, and make a 1- to 2-inch slit through the bottom of each stem.
  • Preserving. Fill a vase with lukewarm water, then add a floral preservative before inserting cuttings. Keep arrangements out of direct sunlight, and change the water and recut stem ends as needed.
